Red Dead Redemption 2 players just realising 'Gavin' was in front of us the whole time

Gavin's been there the whole time

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a lot of mysteries, with one of the biggest being what happened to Gavin.

Who’s Gavin you might ask? Gavin is the love interest of Nigel, an NPC you meet in the game whose sole purpose in life is to be with his beloved companion.

Fancy a bolt of nostalgia? See the launch trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 below.

Unfortunately, there’s no happy endings in Red Dead Redemption 2 as Gavin apparently goes missing, prompting Nigel to spend the rest of his life searching for him.

That said, there’s a popular fan theory that Gavin actually is Nigel. Fans believe that Nigel did indeed find Gavin and confess his love to him, but due to homosexuality not being deemed socially acceptable at the time, Gavin killed him either out of anger or confusion over his own feelings.

In an attempt to conceal the murder he became Nigel, and allowed the story to be that Gavin simply went missing, never to be seen again.

It’s a wild theory, for sure, but one that various Reddit threads have agreed is the truth, but of course, we’ll never know unless someone at Rockstar games confirms it one day.

There are certainly weirder stories in Red Dead Redemption 2 like people worshipping The Strange Man from the first game and serial killers creating monstrosities out of body parts, so it’s not too hard to believe that someone turned a murder case into a missing person case instead.

Fans have also pointed out that Nigel’s character model in the game is labelled as Gavin, supporting the theory further.

If you haven’t followed this questline yourself in your own playthrough of the game, it’s worth checking out to see what you can dig up, but then again Red Dead Redemption 2 is massive and it’s veryy easy to get distracted by other in-game events.
