We’re officially in game awards season. Overall, it’s a pretty exciting time - after a full year of exciting new releases, it gives us the chance to think about our favourites and which ones really had an impact.
The Game Awards is the ceremony everyone talks about, of course - this year, we’ve basically got Elden Ring VS God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Forbidden West for most of the categories, which no one seems that surprised by. Yesterday though (22 November), the Steam Awards nominations also opened up, allowing users to select their favourite titles to be given the spotlight.
Speaking of Elden Ring, check out some of our favourite wins and fails from the game below.
Not all of the Steam Awards categories are for 2022 releases, however. One of them is called the ‘Labour of Love’ award, and serves to highlight a title which has been supported well by its devs long after its release. The award’s description reads: “This game has been out for a while. The team is well past the debut of their creative baby, but being the good parents they are, these devs continue to nurture and support their creation. This game, to this day, is still getting new content after all these years.”

With that in mind, which game springs to mind for you? Obviously, your answer will heavily depend on your personal preferences, but I’d be willing to bet you didn’t say Red Dead Online. Despite having a loyal fanbase, the game has famously been done very dirty by Rockstar in recent times, and it was recently announced that the studio is pretty much done with it. Which is why it was so funny to a bunch of players on Reddit when they saw it highlighted as a nomination option.
“Steve Rogers: ‘No I don’t think I will’,” commented Coffeehound13. “F**k no,” added HiHowAreYou10. “*Laughing slowly turns to crying*,” wrote Raymado.

It’s worth keeping in mind here that the game only showed up as an option here based on OP’s play history, as well as the fact that it technically meets the criteria for the category, being an ongoing game. Regardless, something makes me doubt it’s going to win this one.
