Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown has been officially announced as the first major reveal during Summer Game Fest's opening night, and it looks like a real return to the beloved character's 2D roots.
While the long-awaited Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time remake isn't in the best shape, it's clear that Ubisoft hasn't completely abandoned the prince. The Lost Crown looks to be a 2D side-scrolling slash-em-up in the vein of the very first game in the series, albeit with plenty of modern bells and whistles.
In the reveal trailer, which you can see below, the prince nimbly spins and hacks his way through massive levels, taking on huge bosses and pinging over obstacles like a seasoned gymnast. It looks amazing.
Ubisoft's official synopsis for the game reads: "Dash into a stylish and thrilling action-adventure platformer set in a mythological Persian world where the boundaries of time and space are yours to manipulate.
Advert
"Play as Sargon and evolve from sword-wielding prodigy to extraordinary legend as you master acrobatic combat and unlock new Time Powers and unique super abilities."
Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown is coming January 18, 2024. You can tune into the Ubisoft Forward on June 12 to learn more about the game.
A remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was originally announced all the way back in 2020 with a planned January 2021 release window. The game was eventually delayed to late 2021, and then delayed again to an unspecified date in 2022. In June of last year, those who had pre-ordered the game began having their pre-orders cancelled signalling bad news. Now, it’s believed that the project has been scrapped and will begin from the ground up. Still, we can all look forward to this new game, right? Let's just hope it hits that January release date.
