Well, this is unexpected. Popular horror game Friday The 13th will soon be pulled from sale forever, although there is a perfectly reasonable explanation.
As Friday The 13th: The Game is based on an established IP, developers Illfonic would’ve had a contract for the length for which they could use that IP. Unfortunately, that’s soon drawing to a close which means the game can no longer be sold. It’s not the first time it’s happened this month, as a popular Steam release also suffered a similar fate in recent weeks. Friday The 13th was released back in 2017. The game is a semi-open world survival horror set, as I’m sure you can guess, at the iconic Camp Crystal Lake.
Speaking of horror games, Toxic Commando was just announced from acclaimed horror director John Carpenter.
Over on Twitter, the developers published a statement about the situation. They wrote, “The time has come. Our license for Friday the 13th will expire on 31 December, 2023. On that date, Friday the 13th: The Game will no longer be available for sale, both physically and digitally. The game will, however, continue to function through at least December 31, 2024, if you already own it. At this time, we’ve made the decision to reduce the price to $4.99 for the base game and $0.99 for each piece of DLC content. We will continue to offer the title and content at that price point right up until it is removed from digital/physical storefronts on 31 December, 2023.”

They continued, “We would like to thank our community for the dedication they’ve shown to Friday the 13th: The Game and Gun Interactive as a whole, and we are happy the game will live on a while longer and continue to be enjoyed by anyone owning the game already.”
If you haven’t yet checked out Friday the 13th, don’t be put off. If you ask me, $4.99 is a great price for a classic horror game you’re going to get to enjoy for at least 18 months.
