The next expansion for Pokémon Trading Card Game has got fans furious, with some even saying they’re “not bothering”.

On Thursday earlier this week, The Pokémon Company announced that a new expansion would be launching in September for Pokémon Trading Card Game.

The expansion is called Mega Evolution, and was initially announced on Pokémon Day in February. Now, after months of waiting, the expansion finally has a release date set for 26th September, 2025.

The expansion includes a lot of new cards, including 10 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, 22 illustration rare Pokémon, 22 ultra rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Trainer cards, and 10 special illustration rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Supporter cards.

However, many factors like high demand, supply chain disruptions, and resellers have meant that in recent years, Pokémon TCG cards have been difficult to acquire at launch.

Many fans have had to wait for months just to be able to see new cards available in stores.

“I'm not even going to bother,” wrote one fan on the Pokémon Trading Card Game Reddit page. “Waiting in the PC queue for hours to get nothing? No thanks. Paying 2-3X MSRP at LCS or even Walmart? Nah I'm good.

“I'm a-okay with just buying either Jpn singles or eng singles when they become available. Otherwise, it's just not worth it to open packs. Not at CAD 10$+ for a single current gen pack.”

“Yeah, I’m not excited about Black Bolt & White Flare and I’m not excited about this set in the same way,” wrote another fan. “With the current market, likely will never see any in retail beyond preorders so I’ll just sit it out.”

“I've been trying to get my brother a pack of prismatic since CHRISTMAS without overpaying scalpers and I just couldn't get it,” wrote a third commenter. “Hoping to preorder this at least to make up for it and actually get him a pack.”

Many fans are expecting the supply issues to occur here as they have with earlier launches, and it seems like that isn’t expected to change any time soon.
