It has been just a few months since Nintendo brought its beloved Pokémon Trading Card Game to mobile for the first time, and since then, the creature-catching game has taken the world by storm.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is the mobile version of the game with the same name which was released to iOS and Android in late October 2024.

Since then, it is safe to say that players are obsessed with opening those packs and as a result, over 60 million people have downloaded the game since its launch.

However, as expected, they want more and luckily, the team is happy to please.

The Pokémon TCG Pocket team has finally revealed how trading will work in-game.

However, there will be a catch.

Posted on its official Twitter account, the team has revealed that trades will only be able to be made “between friends” and must include “cards of the same rarity”.

Additionally, “items must be consumed in order to trade” which we assume means currency of some sort. However, the team did not go into detail about how much a trade will cost or how it can be paid for.

Last but not least, it seems as though only certain cards will be able to be traded upon the feature’s launch.

“At the time of the trade feature’s launch, certain cards from the Genetic Apex and Mythical Island booster packs will be able to be traded,” the post continues.

However, it also says that the selection will be expanded over time.

As you can expect, these pretty strict rules were not received well with fans, with many offering feedback as to how the trading system can be improved in the future.

One comment read, “A bit concerning how people are meant to complete sets with such limited trading. Max 1 star rarity is a huge disappointment as well, hopefully that gets increased quickly.”

In a more recent reply to the initial Tweet, the TCG Pocket team had the following to say:

“Thank you, everyone, for your immediate thoughts on this topic!

Your concerns are seen. Once this feature becomes available, I'd like to invite everyone to try it and provide feedback. This way, the game can continue to evolve in an enjoyable way for everyone.”
