PlayStation 5 system update adds feature fans have wanted since launch

Fashionably late, dear.

Today, the PlayStation 5 is lining up with its predecessor with the arrival of PlayStation Tournaments, a feature that lets players across PS4 and PS5 engage with competitive games for prizes like cash, new consoles, and DualSense Edge wireless controllers.

Not only does this open up new opportunities for play, Sony has aimed to improve upon the original PlayStation Tournaments experience, with upcoming tournaments visible on the home screen for relevant games, instantaneous communications, responsive bracket capping, and a dedicated Discord server to welcome players of all skill levels.

Check it out in action below:

"The new experience streamlines competitive play with shorter tournament times, seamless on-console sign-up, easily discoverable tournaments, all-new user interface, real-time match updates, and more improvements that address common barriers to online competitive play," said Sony in the announcement. "Today, we’re thrilled to roll out our first official PlayStation Tournaments for PlayStation 5 - featuring Guilty Gear: Strive, NBA 2K23, and FIFA 23."

This Win-A-Thon will extend from 1 December to 31 January, 2023 and includes PS4 and PS5 players. However, it's important to note that the structure and according prizes of the competition differs between the generations - you can see how it all shakes out here.

"PlayStation Tournaments on PlayStation 5 will create more meaningful and frictionless competitive gaming experiences for players of all skill levels. We can’t wait for you to sign up, play, compete, and engage with the community across lots of fantastic games from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners," continued Sony. Best of luck .
