PlayStation 5 players livid as Diablo 4 literally unplayable on launch night

Diablo IV fans hoping for a smooth launch were disappointed when PS5 players reported a glitch that prevented them from opening the game.

Diablo IV fans hoping for a smooth launch were left disappointed last night, when PS5 players reported a glitch that prevented them from opening the game.

Upon booting up the new Blizzard game, many PS5 players have been hit with the following message: “Unable to find a valid license for Diablo IV (Code 315306).” This is essentially telling the player that they don’t own a copy of the game so they can’t play it, which is a load of rubbish. It’s frustrating to say the least, especially since loads of PlayStation players have spent their hard-earned cash on a game that won’t let them play it.

Take a look at Diablo VI in action below.

It’s reported that some Xbox players have been receiving the same message, but the majority are launching and playing the game with no issues, with PS5 players being the worst affected. Not exactly the exclusive many PlayStation fans had in mind when they bought their consoles.

Blizzard has responded to the problem with the following statement: “We are seeing reports regarding PlayStation users experiencing Invalid License errors. The team is looking into this right now and will update once we have more information.” Twitter threads have also been launched to gather information and provide updates when a fix is discovered. At the time of writing, players are still experiencing the issue, with the Blizzard team posting an update in its forums saying they’ve “done some work to help mitigate this issue,” but haven’t entirely cracked it yet.

For now, affected PlayStation fans will just have to sit tight, and wait till a patch update or solution is found. Amusingly, this is the second Diablo game to have a disastrous launch, as Diablo III also failed to let anybody play on launch day. Upon booting up that game, players were met with a similar error message to the one they’re receiving now. The message read: “The servers are busy at this time. Please try again later. (Error 37)”. It was eventually fixed, as were the current problems with Diablo IV, but was obviously a bad start to the third instalment in the series, which was already controversial amongst fans to begin with.

It seems history is repeating itself with Diablo IV. It's a shame too because it’s currently one of the highest rated games of the year in the eyes of critics. Unfortunately, it’s likely that’ll change as the disgruntled user scores come flooding in, especially if other glitches and bugs come crawling out of the woodwork.
