At long last, it finally seems that Discord integration will be releasing for PlayStation soon. How long have we been waiting now?
Too long, is the answer. It was all the way back in May 2021 that it was first announced that PlayStation and Discord were going to be teaming up, allowing friends to “communicate more easily while playing games together”. Originally, it was stated that this would be rolling out in early 2022, but clearly, that wasn’t quite accurate.
This is an exciting year for PlayStation 5 owners, as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is finally releasing in autumn. Take a look at the trailer below.
As PlayStation LifeStyle reports, a recent Discord datamine suggests that the time may be upon us. The datamine, which was posted on GitHub, makes multiple very clear references to the integration, with one line reading: “We have new features for PS5 users. Hang out with Discord friends while playing games in voice chat.”

It should be noted there that it specifically says that the features are “for PS5 users”, which suggests that PS4 users might have drawn the short straw. However, another line says that “certain features are only available on PS5”, which implies that some functions are still coming to the previous-gen console. Based on a different line of text, this might simply amount to displaying your PlayStation ID and what games you’re currently playing, which isn’t exactly exhilarating, but it’d be better than nothing. Some supposed screenshots supplied along with the datamined text also back this up.
At the time of writing, neither Discord or PlayStation have made any comment on the datamine or confirmed if the rollout is imminent, so we’ll just have to hang tight. Let’s face it, we’ve come this far, I’m sure we can stay patient for a little longer.
