Xbox Series X users horrified to learn they've been setting up their consoles wrong

You spent a lot of money on your console, make sure you're getting the most out of it

Xbox Series X owners need to be careful where they store their console, for fear of overheating the poor thing.

The trouble with spending hundreds on a box of wires is you’re always conscious of its health and wellbeing, it’s like having a kid, with the smallest of hiccups sparking a primal fear that it’s deathly ill.

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle launches on Xbox this December, will you be playing?

While I’ve personally never had an issue with one of my modern consoles, touch wood, I know many have struggled with the placement of their consoles, and where’s best to display it to avoid overheating.

Take this Reddit thread for example where one user wanted to know if they could keep their Xbox Series X in a media cabinet, or whether it’ll be detrimental to the console’s wellbeing further down the line.

“Not enough airflow, best place to keep it is in the middle of a field” one user said, whereas another added that they have “plenty of exhaust space and nothing obstructing intake” so it should be fine, they might just need a fan to keep it cool during the warm months.

Some responses were less helpful though, like one that read “yeah, you’re gonna wanna just put it in the freezer. Perhaps a little mini fridge that you keep it in right next to your entertainment set up.”

Jokes aside, the best place to keep your Xbox console, and the same goes for just about any console really like the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, is somewhere open where it can get plenty of air.

This not only keeps it cool but it also ensures a minimal amount of dust finds its way into the vents, but you’ll still want to clean it quite regularly.

The official Xbox website has guides for where to keep the console and general maintenance tips as well, so if you’re unsure about your current set-up, definitely check it out as it’s better to be safe than sorry.
