Xbox gamers can try an upcoming RPG for free this weekend, a whole month ahead of its official release.
As detailed by Pure Xbox’s Fraser Gilbert, New World: Aeternum will be available for all Xbox owners from 13 September (as in, right now) until 16 September for the low price of free.
New World: Aeternum is in development by Amazon Games Orange County, formerly known as Double Helix Games, and serves as the console release for New World (which released back in September 2021).

As the developer’s name might imply, Amazon Games Orange County is actually one of Amazon’s gaming divisions. The online retail giant started dipping their toes into AAA games back in 2016, and the original New World serves as its first big foray into the market.
The reviews for the original New World are uniformly average, with almost every outlet scoring it 6/10.
ICYMI: The Plucky Squire lands on 17 September - day one for PS Plus users.
PC Gamer’s Fraser Brown concluded that “New World's engaging crafting and faction rivalries are held back by abysmal PvE and a boring world” in their 60/100 review for the title back in October.

Amazon is clearly trying to rebrand it a bit with the console release of the title however, although you can be assured that the microtransaction heavy “gameplay” is probably still going to present in the newer versions of the game.
Xbox owners can make their own minds up this weekend instead of listening to me though. Just be warned, the version available this weekend is apparently still in beta - so your experience with the full version may vary.
PlayStation owners need not fear however, as they too can get in on the action when New World: Aeternum releases on 15 October next month (although you may want to ask your Xbox pals what they think of the beta before jumping in credit card first).
