Being able to hold the power of Xbox in your hands is no longer just a pipe dream. Still, its release is some years away yet.
As much as we love our Xbox Series X, we appreciate how cumbersome it is – we can’t exactly take it on the train with us for a quick gaming session on the way to work.
It would be wonderful to be able to play our favourite Xbox titles on the move.

Technically, we can, so long as they’re also available on either the Steam Deck or Nintendo, but let’s ignore technicalities for now.
Our point is that a handheld version of the Xbox is an obvious gap in Microsoft’s hardware catalogue. And it’s apparently one it intends to fill over the next few years.

When interviewed by Bloomberg, Xbox’s Phil Spencer spoke of the “expectation” placed on them by gamers to create such a device.
Furthermore, that there are plans to build a handheld console, as well as prototypes currently being worked on.
“Longer term, I love us building devices," Spencer added. "And I think our team could do some real innovative work, but we want to be informed by learning and what’s happening now.”
It’s a promising start, but that’s all it is: a start.

Xbox is nowhere near ready to unveil this console beyond its initial concept. Consequently, you should return your Xbox Series X/S to its place in your living room; you’ll need it for the foreseeable future.
