Xbox Game Pass comes through for us once again, this time offering one of the best open-world RPGs available for free (Well, within your subscription cost, of course). But what game is it that we, and fans, keep speaking so highly of? It’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
There are many AC games that gamers argue over being the best, but time and again AC Odyssey makes its way to the top of the pile, often alongside AC Origins. In some respects, the two of them are hard to choose between, with both of them delivering an experience that Valhalla just didn’t capture, thus making it one of the weakest in the franchise.
You should also check out Assassin's Creed Nexus VR – it gives you the power like never before!
“So I loved Origins, but was burnt out when Odyssey dropped,” said one player. “Thought it would be more of the same, but tried Odyssey a year later and was mad at myself for waiting so long. Currently my favourite AC title, gameplay and story-wise.” They then went on to explain how the DLC is “top tier” and that the environments are “mind-blowing”, both of which we agree with.

When you can get such a highly praised game for nothing but the cost of Game Pass, a service that keeps putting PlayStation Plus to shame, it’s a game you should all be adding to your to-play pile.
Arguably what makes Odyssey a fan-favourite is that it scratches that RPG itch that other AC games haven’t – it went big, exploring gameplay mechanics previously untouched, essentially giving players more freedom to carve their own path. Even the argument that “AC players hate Odyssey” is a fallacy, as explained by CJKatz on Reddit, “That's just nonsense. I played all of the AC games when they launched and Odyssey is easily [in the] top three in the series.”
It doesn’t matter if you’re an avid AC fan or someone who just casually follows along whenever a new game comes out – just make sure not to miss out on a stellar open-world RPG that's available as a freebie from Xbox Game Pass.
