Microsoft just announced that another game is coming to Xbox Game Pass, and hopefully it’ll help tide Grand Theft Auto fans over until the sixth game finally releases next year.
As revealed on the Xbox Game Pass UK official Twitter account, Mafia: Definitive Edition is going up on Xbox Game Pass… now. As in, you can play it right this second.

Mafia: Definitive Edition launched back in September 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

It was developed by Hangar 13, who also worked on Mafia III back in 2016, and published by 2K Games.
The game is a relatively faithful remake of the original Mafia that released back in 2002, and was developed by Illusion Softworks.
Illusion Softworks would later be rebranded into 2K Czech in 2008, after 2K acquired the developer.
2K Czech actually assisted Hanger 13 with the development of Mafia III, and the team would subsequently be merged into Hanger 13 in 2017.

Mafia: Definitive Edition launched to pretty decent reviews. The Xbox One version of the game is currently sitting at a “generally favourable” score of 79 on Metacritic.
IGN’s Luke Reilly was particularly fond of it in their 8/10 review, praising it for its “excellent performances from its new cast, a fantastic driving model, and a beautiful and authentic city oozing with 1930s atmosphere like overfilled cannoli”.
It wasn’t all complimentary however, as Game Informer’s Jeff Clark was particularly harsh in his 5.5/10 review. He criticised it for being too faithful to the original, concluding that “Mafia: Definitive Edition is an interesting time capsule that shows how far the industry has come since 2002.”
Its inclusion on Game Pass follows the recent news that Age of Mythology: Retold, Star Trucker, Frostpunk 2, and Ara: History Untold will be landing on the service sometime in September.
