The end of the Xbox 360 store as we know it is inevitable, being shut down for good before the console turns 20.
Not long ago, Microsoft announced the heartbreaking news that the Xbox 360 store will be shut down. Despite having a great run, many will undoubtedly be sad to see it go.
The next Xbox exclusive, Starfield, is almost here, check it out below
As told through one of Xbox’s official blogs, the store will be permanently shut down in July 2024. It will “stop supporting the ability to purchase new games, DLC, and other entertainment content from the Xbox 360 Store on the console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace.”

They also stated the TV and film apps “will no longer function on Xbox 360, which means TV and movie content will no longer be viewable on your Xbox 360 after” the closing date.
Worth noting that the store’s closure won’t affect digital products bought from the store prior to its shutdown, meaning if there’s anything left that you want to grab before it’s gone forever, you’ve got just less than a year to get them. Obviously, this won’t affect Xbox 360 content available on the Xbox One/Xbox Series X/S either.
To add insult to injury, it seems Microsoft is killing off the beloved Xbox 360 a year before the console’s 20th birthday. The 360 was released in 2005, meaning 2025 would mark 20 years since its launch.
It’d be a very special day, especially given all the fond memories thousands of gamers have with the console and its digital store. Some truly specular games launched for the system throughout its life, like Fable, the Gears of War and of course, Halo 3.

That being said nothing can last forever, and with the amount of new Xbox consoles, with potentially more on the way, it makes sense for Microsoft to leave the last-gen system in the past where it belongs.
You had a good run Xbox 360, but the Red Ring Of Death comes for us all eventually.
