Starfield fans furious over latest update from Xbox

"Bethesda makes it so hard to defend this game"

Starfield was a no-show at the latest Xbox Games Showcase, and fans are losing hope in the future of the game.

When Starfield launched in 2023, fans and critics agreed that while the game was generally fine, a lot of it also felt undercooked.

Players held hope that Bethesda could improve the game over time through new DLC and patches.

It felt like this was going to be the case with the addition of map improvements and the REV-8 buggy, but things have slowed down since then.

In fact, Starfield has only had one patch in the last six months, and fans aren’t happy about the fact that it still hasn’t reached its full potential.

Fans were hopeful for something to be announced during the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, such as a new DLC or update, but it actually ended up being a no-show.

“People put way too much hope into this,” wrote one comment on the Starfield Reddit page. “I didn't expect anything and they still managed to disappoint. Right now, it really feels they are done with Starfield and are only squeezing it for as much creation money as possible.”

“At this point I'm fully disappointed in them,” added another comment. “Even if they didn't have footage ready, they could have at least given an update as to what they are doing or a date we would hear from them like a Bethesda Direct.”

“Bethesda makes it so hard to defend this game,” wrote another post on the Starfield Reddit page. “I love Starfield. 1100 hours in. If it weren’t for mods, I’d given up long ago. Knowing that Bethesda will never read this, I’m nonetheless speaking directly to you—shame on you for keeping your loyal fans in the dark, and for throwing in the towel.”

According to Todd Howard, Bethesda’s original plans for Starfield DLC was for there to be a new expansion every year. However, with the poor reception to the Shattered Space expansion, these plans may have changed now.

Perhaps the game will find a new life on PS5, if Xbox ever decides to bring the game over to Sony’s platform.

For now though, it seems as though modders will be the ones keeping it alive until we get a new update from Bethesda.
