Halo officially getting a new prequel, releasing this year

We do love a prequel

Many would say the Halo franchise is dead, but I’d say it’s just lying dormant, conserving its energy for a major revamp.

Since 343 Industries rebranded to Halo Studios and shared Unreal Engine 5 images of what could be the next Halo game in development, it’s pretty clear things are going back to basics with a full-on reboot.

While Halo: Infinite was a breath of fresh air compared to what we had before, there just wasn’t enough content to keep people engaged for long

With the reboot will come a new story, officially saying goodbye to what was being set up at the end of Halo: Infinite’s campaign.

For now though Halo: Infinite is still the Halo game at the moment, further proven by a new prequel novel releasing 18 February this year called Halo: Empty Throne.

It’s 512 pages of story set before everything went wrong for the Master Chief and the UNSC, as Chief rallies the troops above Zeta Halo for an attack.

It’ll explore more of Cortana being the antagonist, something that was quickly dropped between Halo 5: Guardians and Halo: Infinite, a decision that was understandable but a bit premature if you ask me.

Cortana responds to this UNSC invasion by using Forerunner weapons to take on the fleet, and another spanner is thrown into the works when The Banished arrive at the Halo too, who obviously go on to become the main antagonists when they defeat Cortana themselves.

Like most Halo novels you can either pick up a physical copy when it releases this year, a digital copy on a kindle, or an audiobook, which is always my preferred choice.

While the games can be pretty hit and miss these days the novels are usually good quality, I haven’t finished all of them but from the many I’ve read/listened to the lore and character development they offer makes me appreciate the games even more.
