Xbox Game Pass is at it again with the arrival of an award-winning single-player RPG that has been likened to the Fallout franchise.
First released back in 2019, The Outer Worlds is an action RPG by Obsidian Entertainment and it has now made its way to the Xbox Game Pass catalogue. With combat and dialogue similar to Bethesda’s Fallout series, it became an instant hit for fans of the genre.

“Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony”, reads the official synopsis. “As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.”

As you can see, The Outer Worlds adapts to your every decision and everything from your character’s customisation, companion stories and end-game scenarios depend on you. As you set off on your journey across the colony, your every move will be tracked in order to customise the game to your gameplay.
“Keep getting attacked by Raptidons? Taking the Raptiphobia flaw gives you a debuff when confronting the vicious creatures, but rewards you with an additional character perk immediately. This optional approach to the game helps you build the character you want while exploring Halcyon.”
You will also be joined with a diverse bunch of companions who you will help with their own journeys as much as they help with yours. They will each have unique skills, personalities and goals and will make an excellent addition to your crew.
In typical Fallout-style fashion, you will explore settlements, space stations and a wide variety of interesting locations all across the Halcyon in order to complete quests, find new people and improve your abilities.
