You know the drill by now. If you’re gaming on a budget, Steam is the place to go.
Not only is the storefront packed with fantastic offers, it’s also home to thousands of free demos and given just how pricey gaming can be, we’re certainly not going to turn down the opportunity to try before we buy.
Today, it’s Klukva Games’ Dead Weight that I want to bring to light, a game that is certain to delight those of you who enjoy pixel-art aesthetics.

Dead Weight may be due to launch later this year, but it just visually oozes nostalgia.
It’s a turn-based RPG set in a very cool steampunk world. Players board their own flying pirate ship, exploring floating islands in search of loot - but there’s going to be more than a few battles along the way.
Rise of the Ronin launches this week on PS5. Take a look at our video preview below.
“A marvellous steampunk adventure awaits you in the sandbox world of Dead Weight. Choose a flying ship, stock up on fuel, hire a trusty crew and get ready to explore dangerous islands and fight the Ancient Gods in turn-based combat. Unlock new skills, get stronger and deal with late game crises,” the synopsis teases.

The close-quarters turn-based combat will require players to “think ahead if they want to survive”.
Thankfully, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your ship and train your crew to give you the edge in battle.
There’s also an extensive skill tree, and 15 character classes available so you can tailor the experience to suit your play style.
Dead Weight is yet to confirm its release date, instead offering a window of Q4 2024 which runs from October to December.

You don’t have to wait that long though to dive into its world. A free demo is available to check out right now though on Steam, so go and give it a whirl.
