Sky: Children of the Light has the potential to be one of the most relaxing games you’ll ever play. Originally released on iOS, developers at thatgamecompany have since ported it to Android, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation - and it’s now heading to Steam too.
If thatgamecompany rings a bell, it’s because it’s the studio behind 2012’s Journey which, yes, is considered to be one of the greatest video games of all-time. Sky: Children of the Light is also wildly successful though, recently breaking the world record for having the most people in a virtual concert space. Sky is essentially a MMO that encourages players to ‘meaningfully connect with one another.’ It’s an open-world game so there’s plenty for you to explore - and it boasts a stunning art style.
Take a look at Sky: Children of the Light in action below.
The official synopsis reads, “You are a Child of the Light. I know you don’t remember anything, but lift your eyes to the horizon - here is a beautiful world just waiting to be explored by you and your loved ones! As you take flight into these realms, make sure to pause here and there to appreciate the splendor of the wilderness around you. And keep watch for the Spirits of your Ancestors! Some of them are stuck here - and they need your help. You have the power to free them, and return them to their home among the stars.”
Advert
You’ll also encounter other Sky Children - and thatgamecompany devs are constantly adding new regions, characters, and features. They describe Sky as an adventure that never ends. You can focus on restoring light to a fallen kingdom alone in the main campaign, or team up with a friend in multiplayer.
While a release date hasn’t been set for the Steam version of Sky: Children of the Light, you can currently check out a free demo. That way, when the game launches, you’ll know exactly if it’s for you or not. I heartily recommend you give it a go.
