Steam's latest free game is a Nintendo 3DS gem

Double Steamy

Back in the Nintendo 3DS days, the Steamworld series was absolutely banging, they couldn’t put a foot wrong.

They were perfect little games for the plucky handheld, and millions of fans would agree, as they brought cartoon delight paired with engaging mechanics, and now the original Steamworld Dig is available for free on Steam.

I make that doubly Steamy.

That’s right, for a limited time, you can claim a free copy of Steamworld Dig, which is one of the best games for the 3DS, though it also released for other systems.

Digging through the ground to find resources, upgrade your tools, all while playing within a universe that sparks joy, makes this a must-play game.

If you’ve got a Steam Deck, it’s the perfect way to play it, too.

With lots of puzzles and a metroidvania approach to exploration, the sense of progression throughout will keep pulling you back into the game - it’s one of those titles where you just want five more minutes to play longer.

And if you like this, the sequel, Steamworld Dig 2, is on offer for less the price of a cup of tea, at 94% off its usual price.

Anyway, don’t just take my word for it on this, the Steam reviews are popping.

“Amazing game with an even better sequel,” said one fan who left a positive review.

Another fan left a review saying, “It packs hours of gameplay. I genuinely love this game, 10/10 would recommend.”

The Steamworld franchise eventually grew and grew, with other genres explored using the same art style and sense of humour.

All of them are worth your time, even though you might not connect with some because of the type of game it leans into.

But you can’t go wrong here, especially when it’s completely free.
