Steam’s latest event is currently underway; City Builder & Colony Sim Fest is celebrating, you guessed it, city builder and colony sim games.
If you’re not familiar with these types of events, allow me to fill you in.
Essentially, these festivals centre around a certain genre, shedding a light on the available demos within that genre whilst also offering discounts on full releases.

The City Builder & Colony Sim Fest runs until 31 March at 10am PST which means that there’s plenty of time to get involved.
As I said, attention is drawn to the demos available within a particular genre - some of which were out there already and many of which are released especially for the event.
It would take me a long time to count exactly just how many are on offer during City Builder & Colony Sim Fest but we’re certainly talking high double figures, potentially triple.
As such, I can guarantee that you’ll find a free demo on offer here that’ll tickle your fancy.

Need some assistance? Then I shall highlight some of my personal favourites.
Greenfeet Haven is a 2D top-down colony sim, and I suspect that its pixel graphics and UI will hugely appeal to Stardew Valley fans.
The premise is simple; you start in a fantasy world with nothing.
It’s up to you to farm, scavenge, and explore, turning an empty piece of land into a thriving self-sufficient village.

You can view Greenfeet Haven in action below.
Republic of Pirates is a city builder with an Assassin’s Creed Black Flag twist.
Set during the golden age of piracy, this one will see you engage in naval combat as you seek to establish and defend a new port town in the Caribbean.

If you’re someone who prefers RPGs, then perhaps Edge Islands can lure you in as this is a colony sim that also incorporates tactical RPG elements.
“Recruit and train your heroes, build your outpost, explore dungeons and engage in turn-based strategic battles to protect and expand your domain. Shape your stories by managing moods, relationships, ambitions and more,” the description reads.
City Tales - Medieval Era is a demo I’ve got my eye on, with the full game set to launch in May of this year.
This one’s a medieval city builder that boasts a very cosy aesthetic.

You’ll want to manage resources, plan your kingdom's districts, and satisfy your citizens all within what appears to be a wholesome, pretty package.
These are just a few of the many, many demos on offer so do have a browse while the event is underway.
