If you’re a fan of survival horror franchises such as Silent Hill and Resident Evil, then you’re gonna want to get a taste of this free Steam download today.

If you’re a fan of the survival horror genre, then there’s a good chance that you’re a fan of Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Dead Space and more. However, it’s not just the AAA market that owns this genre, because the ever-vibrant indie scene also owns its fair share.

Some could fairly argue that most indie horror games greatly outdo what’s achieved by the well-funded AAA offerings. Games such as Visage, The Mortuary Assistant, and Signalis will be scaring gamers witless for years to come.

This New Indie Horror Looks Incredible

If you’re on the lookout for a promising new horror that not only has some vibes of Silent Hill and Resident Evil, but also Twin Peaks, then the upcoming Silver Pines could be your cup of tea. The game in question is developed by Wych Elm and published by Team17.

Silver Pines has a gorgeous, yet haunting 2.5 art style with gameplay that is representative of the Metroidvania sub-genre. Judging by its gameplay trailer, its soundtrack will also play a huge role in providing all the tension that should keep you on edge from start to finish.

What’s the Story of Silver Pines?

“Private investigator Red Walker finds himself in Silver Pines, a place half-abandoned, half-forgotten, in the middle of nowhere, on a job to track down Eddie Velvet. A musician who has vanished,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam.

“As the case begins to reveal a dark past, Walker soon slips into a strange and nightmarish descent beyond his control. Embark on a journey filled with dread and atmosphere. Haunted by shadows of the past, Silver Pines is waiting to reveal its dark secrets.”

What Is the Community Saying About Silver Pines?

“That's a damn fine cup of coffee,” said RunnyElephant44 in the comments section of YouTube, referencing another clear inspiration of Silver Pines, that being the cult TV series, Twin Peaks.

“That song pulled something out of me, and I won't get it back until I finish the game. Wishlisted,” announced pandy4395.

“Oh, my gosh. Dude, this scratches that Twin Peaks itch in my brain. Cannot wait for this!” exclaimed TheRealJackArthur.

“Looks amazing! I'm very, very excited for this! Thank you, Team 17,” commented severisakin57.

Is Silver Pines on Other Platforms, and What Is the Release Date?

You’d be pleased to know that Silver Pines isn't just being released on Steam, because it’s also coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch consoles. Its current release date is scheduled for 8 October 2026.

However, if you can’t wait that long for the release of Silver Pines, then you can download its free playable demo via Steam right now. There doesn't appear to be any console demos at the time of writing.
