Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game, Star Wars Outlaws, is set to be absolutely enormous, according to its creative director, Julian Gerighty.
This might be just me, but Star Wars Outlaws is quite easily the game I’m looking forward to most next year. With a GTA-inspired wanted system, and perhaps most importantly, a droid with some serious rizz, Outlaws has got it all. What’s more, the planets included in the game are apparently huge - it sounds like we’re going to be busy for quite some time exploring them.
Take a look at the trailer for Star Wars Outlaws right here.
Previously, game director Mathias Karlson revealed that one of Outlaws’ planets, Toshara, will be bigger than The Division 2’s entire map. Now though, as TheGamer reports, in an interview with Edge magazine, Gerighty revealed that individual planets will be around the size of two zones in the 2018 Assassin’s Creed game.

“It’s a crude analogy, but the size of one planet might be about [equivalent to] two of the zones in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, for example.” Gerighty said. “It could be two to three zones. But it’s not, you know, this sort of epic ‘the whole of England recreated’ approach.”
For reference, there were seven regions in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, a game which takes, on average, 45 hours to beat (for the main story alone). At the time of writing, we don’t know exactly how many planets will be in Outlaws, but as TheGamer points out, fans believe they’ve spotted at least four, but maybe even five so far in the trailers. If that number is accurate, and each is the size of two regions in Odyssey, then apparently Outlaws’ open world (or rather, open universe) is already significantly bigger than the Odyssey’s map. Exciting!
We’ll just have to watch this space, anyway - Star Wars Outlaws is set to release at some point in 2024, but we don’t currently know when.
