According to sources Capcom has big ambitions for Resident Evil 9, and wants it to be the most successful Resident Evil game yet.
Those who tuned in to the PlayStation State Of Play event may have been disappointed to see there was no mention of the next Resident Evil game, despite claims one was due.
The last Resident Evil game to launch was Resident Evil 4 (2023), a fantastic remake that may have implications for the next mainline entry
For now it’s simply known as Resident Evil 9, though it’ll probably have a slightly longer title like Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil 8: Village did.

While nothing else is really known about the game, insiders claim Capcom has big plans for the sequel, aiming for a smash-hit in terms of review scores.
This comes from insider Dusk Golem, who recently claimed “not only is Resident Evil 9 just an ambitious game, there hasn't been a non-remake Resident Evil game that's gotten the level of critical success to get a 90+ critical score. Hear Capcom is gunning really hard to make this great.”
They continued: “I know some will say, "Well of course they want to make a good game," but in this case I mean they're hyper aware they haven't had a mainline non-remake RE achieve a 90+ Metascore since RE4 OG 20 years ago. Their hope is that RE9 will be received by critics & fans as a top-line entry.”
As the post states, of course Capcom wants the game to succeed, and it’s not like previous titles haven’t delivered the spooks, scares and action set-pieces the series is now known for.

What it does mean is the next game should hopefully be bigger and better than all prior games, taking what worked in the remakes and mainline entries to synthesise the perfect Resident Evil game, what could go wrong?
