A Red Dead Redemption 2 player found a “secret” detail about Arthur Morgan, only to learn they were dead wrong in comical fashion.

While the gameplay is comparable to any other Rockstar Games title, not a criticism, it’s the characters and well-written story that make Red Dead Redemption 2 the masterpiece it is, as well as all the hidden details the developers snuck in.

Players have scoured the map for over five years now searching for secrets but that hasn’t stopped new players from enjoying the game from scratch with new playthroughs.

One new player, dogbiscuitsareolay, recently made a Reddit thread commenting on the level of detail Rockstar Games put into the player’s character, and how they can change over the course of the game.

The user said they were trying to complete the cigarette card collecting side mission by smoking multiple packs of cigarettes with Arthur, and were amazed to see him “coughing in a bunch in cutscenes.” The player went on to call it a “neat detail,” oh dear…

Of course as they progressed through the game they eventually realised that there was something far more sinister going on with Arthur’s coughing fits, following up on their post with an edit that simply read “Oh my god i was so wrong.”

As a new player you’d be forgiven for having the same line of thinking as dogbiscuitsareolay did, as there are plenty of ways to change Arthur’s behaviour and appearance through gameplay decisions.

If you eat too much food in the game Arthur will get fat, and if you look carefully at his face when he’s injured you can occasionally see tears in his eyes from the pain.

Those are just a handful of incredible features found within Red Dead Redemption 2, so if you haven’t played the game yet for whatever reason, change that asap.
