The day has finally arrived. Red Dead Redemption is now available to play on Nintendo Switch and modern PlayStation consoles.
It’s not exactly what fans were originally hoping for. When ratings were spotted for an updated version of Red Dead Redemption, insiders claimed that a full remake was in the works. We certainly didn’t end up with a remake. Instead, we got a port - and it’s a very nice port at that, but one that’s come heavily under fire for its high price point. You have to admit that £40 for a ported version of a 13 year old game is pretty extortionate. It turns out though that the PlayStation 4 port of Red Dead Redemption does come with one tiny upgrade after all.
Take a look at the port in action below. It’s available today.
Red Dead Redemption will indeed be enhanced for the PS4 Pro. As reported by PSU, if you take a look over on the PlayStation Store, the listing for the game reads, “PS4 Pro enhanced,” so clearly, details are a tad thin on the ground. That being said, Red Dead Redemption was already available on Xbox and we know that the Xbox Series X version has 4K support so presumably, this is also what PS4 Pro users will be able to take advantage of. Rockstar hasn’t actually confirmed that though.

For now, the newly-released Red Dead Redemption port is available via digital purchase only. It is getting a physical release, but you’ll have to wait until 13 October to get your hands on a physical copy. Pre-orders are open now.
Both versions of the game include access to Undead Nightmare, which I’m sure will be a delight to many fans seeing as Red Dead 2 never got a version of the popular expansion. Go live your best yeehaw life.
