Other than being an endlessly charming game, one of the most exciting moments in Astro Bot can be when you discover a beloved mascot of a favourite franchise, however, that’s not quite the case for this nightmare-fueled character.
Developed by Team Asobi, most of us assumed that Astro Bot would be a fantastic game but perhaps many didn't expect it to be one of the best platformers of all time. At the time of writing, Astro Bot has a Metacritic score of 94 earning the “Must-Play” accolade and is now considered to be one of PlayStation 5’s best exclusives.

In our review of Astro Bot, we said: “If you’ve grown up with PlayStation always has been a constant in your life, the journey you’re about to embark on will assuredly be the most heartwarming trip down memory lane. Astro Bot is a monumental triumph that I’m not going to stop thinking about for a very, very long time.”

In terms of PlayStation mascots that make a cameo in Astro Bot, you can expect the likes of Kratos from God of War, the Hunter from Bloodborne, Nathan Drake from Uncharted and much more. All of these are met with nostalgic vibes that warm the heart, well, all apart from Polygon Man!
In case you didn't know, Polygon Man was a mascot used in print marketing material in 1995 to help promote the release of the original PlayStation. It’s fair to say that this most 90s mascot ever didn't go down well with the gaming community but perhaps no one hated this character more than the former global head of PlayStation, Ken Kutaragi.

Understandably, Polygon Man had been forgotten over time but thanks to Astro Bot, he’s now reemerged from the shadows to haunt us once more. “Polygon Man was the original American PlayStation mascot but literally everyone, including the father of PlayStation Ken Kutaragi, hated him,” tweeted GenePark.
“Was wondering what this character was. Can see why he didn't quite take off as the mascot,” replied MaxMustardGame with many others mentioning that Polygon Man was also the villain in the forgotten brawler, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
Astro Bot is out now on PlayStation 5.
