With time passing by at an unrelenting speed, it is easy to forget that we are approaching the five-year anniversary of the PlayStation 5 launch.
Thanks to low stock, scalpers and a whole pandemic to contend with, the PlayStation 5 had a bit of a rocky launch back in 2020, making the latest Sony console near impossible for fans to get their hands on.
The PlayStation 5 Pro is the latest console by Sony. Check it out below!
However, now five years on and with the PlayStation 5 Pro upgrade now out in the world, we have come a long way so it is no surprise that talk has already turned to the next Sony console.

There is no denying that the PlayStation 6 is still many years away but according to a recent insider leak, the SoC (System-on-a-Chip) for the console has already been designed.
Not only that but the PS6 is also reportedly in pre-silicon validation, a process that uses models to test out the console’s hardware before it is physically built.
If production continues at this speed, the leaker believes that the PS6 could be on track for a late 2027 launch.
However, it seems as though PlayStation users are not in any rush to upgrade the current model.

In a discussion over on r/gamingnews, user padizzledonk said, “Not going to lie, it’s going to be years and years before I upgrade from the PS5.”
Another user agreed, saying: “ALREADY a 6? Why? Just worry about hiring more game studios to make games for you instead of unnecessary consoles. Because the PS5 has barely any games to play. Their library is what makes them sell.”
Out of the 60+ comments on the Reddit thread, almost all of them feel as though the PS6 is currently unnecessary, especially as Sony has only just released the PS5 Pro.
However, thanks to a little thing known as capitalism, it seems as though there is no slowing down the production of the next-gen console.
