PlayStation surprises fans with PS1 remaster we didn't see coming

This classic PS1 title isn't just seeing a release on PS4 and PS5 though...

Sony just announced that a classic PS1 Star Wars title is getting the remaster treatment, and it's releasing on a date not so far, far away.

As revealed on the PlayStation UK Twitter account, a remaster of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles is coming to PS4 and PS5 next year.

"Somehow, Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles returned.", stated the announcement (oh thanks, PlayStation UK, what joke am I gonna put in the headline now?)

"Fully enhanced and including new features like cheat codes, 4 new playable characters, and more. Relive the year 2000 on PS5 & PS4, coming January 23"

The remaster is being handled by developer Aspyr Media, who some may remember as the developers behind the less than favourably received remaster of Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection.

Xbox and Nintendo Switch owners need not fret however, as the Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles will also be releasing for you folks on the same date.

The original game first released on the PlayStation 1 back in April 2000, and was later ported to the Dreamcast a few months later. A different version of the game under the same title also saw a release on the Game Boy Advance in 2001.

Funnily enough, even though the Dreamcast version of the game was a port it actually received far better reviews than the original PlayStation version.

The PlayStation version sits at 58/100 on Metacritic, whereas the Dreamcast version has a score of 76/100. Most reviewers seem to have favoured the Dreamcast version due to its higher framerate, improved control scheme, and extra content.

Regardless of which platform people played it on, Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles has left folks with fond memories. We'll have to wait until January to see if Aspyr are up to the task however.
