PlayStation Plus’ premium tier has widely expanded its selection of free trials, but they haven’t exactly gone down well with subscribers.
Let’s face it, sampling a game isn’t quite as fun as gaining access to the whole thing for free but I’d certainly rather be offered a free trial than nothing at all.
PlayStation Plus’ premium tier typically offers a great selection of recently released major titles that are well worth diving into if you’re not sure whether to splash the cash.

Sampling two-hours of Baldur’s Gate 3 can help decide whether the gameplay style is for you before you drop that £70.
Recent additions have left many less than impressed though.
They include Stellar Blade, Monster Hunter Stories, Monster Hunter Stories 2 Wings of Ruin, Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League, WWE2K 24, Legendar Tales, My Friend Pedro, The Messenger, Bit trip ReRunner, and SpiderHeck.
Stellar Blade is well worth checking out, especially if you missed the previously available free demo which has since been removed.

Beyond that, however, this line-up leaves a lot to be desired which isn’t ideal when these trials are only accessible via PlayStation Plus’ most pricey tier.

Many believe that game trials should be an essential tier perk, and therefore available to all PlayStation Plus subscribers.

“Trials should be on essential not premium ... Never understood the logic behind it,” said Reddit user Emergency-Soup-7461.
“I kinda agree. At the least they should be on Extra,” added MikeRyan87.
“Trials should be free,” wrote an angered fac12. “Charging people for a demo is wild.”
Others took aim at the selection of games specifically.

“Two hour trial for games [I’ve] never heard of... bold, but also kind of directionless,” said sswishbone.
I have to say, this latest line-up is lacking.
If you’re going to lock free trials behind a pricey paywall, those free trials should at least be of the most in-demand games, surely.
The essential tier for August is set to be revealed in a few days on 31 July. Let’s hope it eases the anger of PlayStation Plus subscribers.
