While some may argue the current generation of consoles has hardly even begun at this point, Sony is reportedly getting ready to ditch the last generation entirely.

This shouldn’t come as a shock, as Sony recently said it believes the PlayStation 5 is now in the latter stages of its life, as the company is now looking ahead to the rumoured PlayStation 5 Pro and PlayStation 6.

The PlayStation 5 Pro will be the second PS5 revision, the first being the PlayStation 5 Slim.

You can only imagine where that might leave the PlayStation 4, and it seems we now have confirmed the company will be leaving it in the dust as early as next year.

During the latest Sony investor presentation, the company discussed a number of topics related to its financial gain over the past few years, including increased interest in making its exclusive games available on PC, like Ghost Of Tsushima.

It also shared plans to conclude support for the PlayStation 4 with new games, focusing solely on the PlayStation 5 onwards.

The majority of new releases nowadays will work on new consoles as well as old, with the latter usually having weaker graphics and even cut content.

Many believe while the shared exclusivity is a good thing as it ensures more people can play new games, it has significantly held back the next-generation in terms of graphics and gameplay improvements.

If Sony decides to cut the PlayStation 4 loose it should, hopefully, lead to more advanced PlayStation 5 software further down the road.

Whether the company’s vision of a PlayStation 4-less future comes to pass in 2025 is unknown, but if it does it’ll mean those wanting to play the latest AAA games will have no choice but to upgrade to a new console.
