Each month, we are treated to new additions to the ever-expanding library of Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service and this month is no exception.
Recently, Sony announced the line-up of games to be included in PS Plus November 2023 for the Extra and Premium tiers. While it's impossible to please everyone, it seems that this month's offerings haven't gone down well with subscribers with some dubbing it as the “worst month” in years for the service. That may seem a little extreme, but at the end of the day, we all have our personal preferences.

That being said, while PlayStation Plus November 2023 hasn't largely knocked it out of the park, that’s not to say that it doesn't include some gems. One such gem is Capcom’s fantasy RPG, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. Being developed and published by Capcom and despite being a very different genre, the Dragon’s Dogma series will have a natural temptation from Resident Evil fans, but can also be one for Dark Souls enthusiasts.

In May 2021, Capcom announced Dragon’s Dogma 2 and it will be powered by its in-house RE Engine, which is also used to develop the recent Resident Evil entries. News on the progress of the sequel remained dormant for a while, that was until we were treated to the first Dragon’s Dogma 2 gameplay earlier this year. So with the sequel on the way, the inclusion of the Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on PS Plus, is the perfect way to get up to speed.
“The village of Cassardis is attacked by the newly-arrived Dragon. When the protagonist attacks the Dragon, the Dragon takes their heart,” reads the synopsis of the game. “The protagonist remains alive after this, marking them as the 'Arisen', a figure destined to face the Dragon and stop the coming apocalypse.”
In terms of gameplay, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is an action RPG set in an open world filled with challenging foes and mythical beasts. Players can also pick from one of the various character classes to venture into its big wide world such as Assassin, Fighter, Mage, Magic Archer, Mystic Knight, Ranger, Sorcerer, Strider and Warrior.
Despite being a game that was initially released over 10 years ago in 2012, before being ported to other platforms, RPG fans have every reason to check out this underrated title, especially if you subscribe to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers. While not to the extent of having the difficulty of FromSoftware titles (at least on Easy or Medium), Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen should pose enough of a challenge to please Soulsborne fans.
