PlayStation officially unveils gorgeous new console for 30th anniversary

Sony dropping the fire

Hey Sony, we see you, you think you’re slick? Dropping a new version of the PlayStation 5, calling it the Pro model, then charging us £700 for it?

We said no, we don’t want it, now you tempt us with this gorgeous console skinned to look like the OG PlayStation and think we’ll bite? You’re damn right we will.

PlayStation 5 Pro is on the way and is the premium product everyone expected

So, I’m fickle, what can I say? I like what I like, and this version of the PlayStation 5 Pro is stunning.

Thankfully, if you still don’t want to pay serious money for the upgraded console, you don’t have to.

You could get a standard digital PS5 in the new design, or a PlayStation Portal, should you want to stream games to a handheld device.

This new colourway also includes controllers, so if you want a slice of retro goodness, you won’t have to break the bank.

They are limited edition, however, which means you’ll likely need to order them quickly when preorders open on 26 September.

Many might not truly understand just how good this design is but you’ll have to trust me, that sexy grey brings back so much nostalgia - and the little coloured PlayStation logo is a tiny source of joy.

Perhaps because it’s a bit more playful, this design stands out. Especially in a world of monotone corporate blandness that is white or black.

While I’m not in the market for a new console, I’m going to have to blag one of those controllers, or maybe even the PlayStation Portal as I’ve been intrigued by that for some time.

I’ll even get my PS1 out of storage and place them next to each other in some weird shrine-like way. As homage to the old gods of retro consoles.

You can preorder these very soon from Sony or selected retailers.
