PlayStation gamers threaten to 'boycott' Sony over new release

PlayStation gamers threaten to 'boycott' Sony over new release

Time for another boycott apparently

PlayStation fans aren’t feeling the PlayStation 5 Pro at all. In fact, it’s got so bad that many have taken to Reddit to propose a ‘boycott’ of the console.

This all came about because Sony thought it was a really good idea to launch a new version of the PlayStation 5 and only incrementally improve the hardware, then charge £699.99 for it.

You definitely don't need a PS5 Pro to play Astro Bot as it already looks amazing

There are a lot of negative opinions out there on this and a general sense that Sony isn’t doing anything for loyal players who have stuck with the brand, pricing them out of an upgrade.

So, user pizzamamind posted to Reddit, “Do we all just boycott PS5 Pro?”

Opening the post with, “Honestly waited for PlayStation to release a statement saying the pricing was incorrect. Not quite sure how they can justify to double the price of the PlayStation 5 [Pro].”

While there is a large amount of support for such an idea, many users, including EChocos, said “If "not buying because it's expensive" means boycotting, then yes, I guess.”

I’m not really sure it needs an official, or unofficial, boycott. It’s an exorbitantly priced piece of technology that a large portion of users will simply never buy because they can’t afford it.

Technically, they’re already voting with their wallets.

You also have the issue that most PlayStation fans just see the PS5 Pro as unnecessary, including securinight who commented, “The difference between the Pro and the base PS5 is so marginal that anybody who has a PS5 already cannot justify buying the Pro, whatever the price.”

Then there’s ThinnishSleet87 who really went for it, backing a boycott, “When I spend £700 on an upgraded version of the PS5, I am expecting it to be the ultimate PS5, but instead I need to spend £700 + £125 just to get the ultimate PS5 experience? Lol, no. SONY can suck it.”
