As 2023 rolls to a close, fans can agree there's one thing PlayStation absolutely nailed: a wonderful new system for bagging what is, in essence, free store credit.
PlayStation Plus has had a pretty rough year. Subscribers were less than thrilled with new additions like cloud streaming and the Sony Pictures Core catalogue. Many of the free games haven't exactly won subscribers over, either. However, one shining light in an uneven year: PlayStation Stars.
PlayStation Stars is, simply put, pretty awesome. By playing certain games and making store purchases (including PlayStation Plus free games), you’ll acquire points. These can be redeemed as store credit or in exchange for free games etc.

50 points may not sound like a lot, but it's easy to simply build up points over time without even realising. You need 1,250 points to get £5 store credit or 5,000 points for £20 of store credit. But like I said, these are points earned by playing or buying games, so it really is free money over time.
Over on Reddit fans agree PlayStation Stars is actually a way better system than many of us were expecting when it launched.
"I had pretty low expectations for PlayStation Stars when I first heard about it," wrote one user. "But the implementation has far exceeded my expectations. The fact that they are actually giving us real PlayStation currency value is a nice surprise."
Another added: "It is pretty cool and I see it as a bonus. The $5 store credit here and there is good too!"

There are lots of events announced during which certain games and activities can earn you extra points, and fellow gamers are always finding new ways to farm or get the most out of the system, so if you're not signed up to PlayStation Stars in 2024!
