PlayStation officially teases PS6 specs, and it won't be cheap

Despite the PlayStation 5 Pro being officially unveiled last week alongside its eye-watering price tag, talk has already turned to what this could mean for the future PS6.

After much speculation and many rumours, Sony’s mid-generation console known as the PlayStation 5 Pro was announced last week.

However, despite its increase in specs, fans were left feeling horrified after learning that the console could come alongside an almost £900 price tag.

With the digital version retailing at £699.99, the console with a Ultra HD Disc Drive would set you back another £99.99 and Sony is even asking for an extra £24.99 for a vertical stand.

So it is perhaps no wonder that PlayStation fans are refusing to shell out for the mid-generation update.

As for specs, the PS5 Pro will push 4K graphics with locked 60FPS.

Not only that but it will feature 2-3x more ray-tracing power than the base model and will feature AI-powered PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution).

So with these graphical enhancements (and the price tag enhancement), it has got fans thinking about the next major update - the PS6.

Now thanks to Hideaki Nishino, CEO of the Platform Business Group at Sony Interactive Entertainment, we know that there is "still more that we (Sony) can do" when it comes to the next iteration of the PlayStation.

According to Nishino in an interview with Nikkei, the PS6 sees a bigger focus on “visual accuracy” and the team will be “updating other elements”.

Although this is pretty vague, we can predict that the future console could reach 8K 30FPS in certain situations as well as having 4K with 60fps as the standard.

"Technology is constantly evolving, so I think there's still more we can do,” Nishino said.

“With the PS5, we've shortened loading times by switching from the hard disk drive (HDD) used in the PS4 era to a solid-state drive (SSD).

The sound can now be heard more three-dimensionally through the PS5's controller's speakers, enhancing the sense of immersion.

Visual accuracy is important, but we will also be updating other elements".
