PlayStation 6 realistic release window leaves fans seriously torn

Is it the right time?

It definitely feels a bit early to be talking about the PlayStation 6, however, as the tech industry often moves with speed, it’s no wonder that the console is popping up in conversations.

Talk of the next step for Sony isn’t much of a blessing for fans though, as this generation is seen as being pretty sparse, with many gamers wanting more for their money.

We've only just had the PS5 Pro, surely it's too early to talk PS6?

The last thing we want to be thinking about is another big purchase soon.

Perhaps it’s a silver lining that Sony’s ex-boss, Shuhei Yoshida, has commented on when he realistically expects the PS6 to emerge.

In a discussion with VentureBeat, Yoshida said that the idea of the next PlayStation releasing in 2027 seemed “a bit too early”.

Talking further, he said, “If the next PlayStation comes out in 2028, that feels right to me.”

Upon hearing this, fans have been split on the idea that we’re only a couple of years from the hype train beginning its journey.

“If you bought the PS5 Pro, enjoy it for three years,” commented one gamer on Twitter.

Another PlayStation fan chimed in, saying this was a bad take from the former Sony boss: “Rare Shuhei Yoshida L. Shouldn't be earlier than 2029.”

Contrasting this, others believe it can’t come soon enough, expanding the future of Sony’s hardware with another console.

“It better not, should be 2027,” said one fan.

Personally, I’d say any time before 2028 feels far too soon. The length of time it takes to develop AAA games nowadays is only growing and consoles generations need to slow down, if anything.

One self-proclaimed “Sony fanboy” had this to say, “They don’t even have good enough tech for the PS6 I bet. The release of the PS5 Pro was lacklustre and has me feeling no rush to get the PS6.”

Seems like the community is all over the place on this one.
