The PlayStation 6 may not have been formally announced just yet but with many users believing it is just a matter of time before Sony launches its next edition, many agree that it is just too soon.
Let us take a quick look back.

The PlayStation 4 was first launched back in 2013 and remained Sony’s main console until the PlayStation 5 arrived in 2020.

As a result, the PS4 had a seven-year (and beyond) lifespan before it was “upgraded”, so to speak.
Since 2020, Sony has released the PlayStation 5 Pro which arrived back in November 2024 as a mid-generation upgrade.
However, with rumours beginning to swirl that the PlayStation 6 could launch as early as 2026, it is not hard to notice that the PS5 has barely had its time to shine and it seems as though the majority of users agree.
In a discussion that took place over on r/playstation, one user asked for people’s guesses on how many years it will be until the PS6 launches.

However, talk soon turned to the limited time that we have had with the PS5.
“They need to slow it down and just make more quality games... Nintendo has been killing it with its Switch... I see no excuse or reason why Sony and Xbox can't follow its example?” User Minute-Sheepherder51 wrote.
Another user agreed, adding, “Console generations need to become longer, especially the current generation.
Games are taking much longer to make and it is plausible we may not even see sequels to games like Ghost of Tsushima during the PS5 gen.

Especially with PS5 barely getting onto its feet two years ago due to the COVID pandemic.”
The second user makes a good point as, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and hordes of scalpers, getting your hands on a PS5 back in 2020 was almost impossible, meaning that many users have only recently got their hands on the console.
As a result, it would be a shame to speed on to the next iteration.
Luckily, Sony has not yet officially announced the PS6 so let us hope it is still quite a few years away from release.
