We’ve all been so certain in our belief that the PS6 is the next PlayStation console to launch, however, maybe we’ve been wrong in that assumption.

Sony has been surprised by how successful its PlayStation Portal has been, to the point of attempting to break into the handheld market once again.
Obviously, while a huge success, the Portal isn’t strictly a handheld device.
That said, it’s warm reception from users proves that players are always on the lookout for a new handheld option when they want to game on the go.

“Almost everyone at Gamescom gave interesting hardware discussions about handhelds,” reads one of Henderson’s tweets.
When asked if there was a possibility of a “dedicated” handheld from PlayStation, Henderson offered a promising teaser.
“The PlayStation Portal was very successful, and they are paying very close attention to the current handheld market,” was the response.

From this, comments that “hope has returned” started to pop up.
However, it’s important that we don’t get carried away; while Henderson is normally on the money, we need that crucial Sony confirmation.
Despite not being the only rumour that Sony is cooking up more than just the PS6, without so much as a leak, it could be that such hardware doesn’t launch for another year or two yet.
Still, that would make it the next console as opposed to the PS6.
