PlayStation 5 price increase sees gamers turning to Xbox

PlayStation 5 price increase sees gamers turning to Xbox

PlayStation fans aren't going to be happy about this

The PlayStation 5 is getting a price-hike in Japan, which might see its way into other parts of the world as well.

If it does it’d be a bit of a silly move from Sony, as new-gen consoles are already pricey even without an unnecessary price-hike, and with all the discourse around how few exclusives the PlayStation 5 actually has.

One such exclusive is Astro Bot, a title I simply can’t wait for as it looks joyous, check out the trailer below

It’d also be a silly move considering the PlayStation 5 Pro is supposedly coming out later this year, though at the time of writing that’s unconfirmed by Sony and the only evidence of its existence is a sketch of the console itself.

In Japan the price of a disc model PS5 will now cost 79,980 yen, whereas the digital version will cost 72,980 yen. This marks a +60% and +83% price increase for each version console respectively

Whether this is telling of what’ll happen overseas is another question, but in all likelihood it isn’t very likely.

What it does mean is Xbox could get slightly more popular in Japan, as the American platform has always lagged behind given Sony and Nintendo are the supreme brands.

As for those living in the UK, US and other parts of the world, you should hopefully be fine, and even if the price does increase there’ll still be plenty of deals to take advantage of to get a console on the cheap.

Personally if you don’t own a new-gen PlayStation yet and are thinking of getting one I’d wait until the PS5 Pro gets announced, the specs get shown off, and a release date has been confirmed.

It’ll definitely be a more-powerful console and while it’ll probably be more expensive than the base model, it’ll likely be worth it if you’re serious about gaming.
