At this stage, it’s well known that Sony’s PlayStation 5 is the latter half of its life cycle.
This wasn’t exactly news to us even when Sony announced the fact.
A quick look at PlayStation’s launch history will reveal that most consoles tend to reign for six to seven years.

With that in mind, the PlayStation 6 could be on the way in 2026 or 2027.
We’ve still got a few years to go before then and clearly, Sony isn’t done with the PlayStation 5 just yet.
Plenty of major titles are on the way, including the long-awaited Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, due to launch next year.
It’s also rumoured that a PlayStation 5 Pro will be announced very soon.

Insiders have been whispering about the console for quite some time with the main theory now being that it’ll be unveiled in a State of Play event in September.
Of course, do take that information with a pinch of salt.
With all of this in mind, the PlayStation 5 certainly isn’t beginning to wind down yet but it’s not doing the opposite either.
You can understand then why some fans are outraged that the console has just increased in price in some territories.

PlayStation 5 exclusive Astro Bot launches very soon on 6 September.
PlayStation fans in Japan will now have to fork out even more money if they want to get their hands on the console.
The price increase will come into effect on 2 September and affects a number of pieces of hardware.

As reported by Famitsu, the disc-drive PlayStation 5 will increase from 66,980 yen to 79,980 yen, while the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will rise from 59,980 yen to 72,980 yen.
DualSense Wireless Controllers will now cost 9,480 yen instead of 11,480 yen, and the PlayStation VR2 headset will cost 74,980 yen, up from 89,980 yen.
You’d expect a price decrease at this stage, not the opposite.
The only consolation I can offer is that, hopefully, many of us PlayStation fans will already own the PS5 by now.

If you don’t though, this certainly won’t be welcomed news.
