Sony just released a brand new update for the PlayStation 5 that gives your 21st-century console a 20th-century vibe, and fans could not be happier.
To celebrate the 30th birthday of the original PlayStation, you can now morph your PlayStation 5 into a PS1, PS2, PS3 or even a PS4 courtesy of a newly introduced setting.
If your PS5 has the latest update installed, you’ll be prompted to access a new “PlayStation 30th Anniversary” menu upon booting it up for the first time.

Switching to whatever PlayStation generation of your choosing will alter the menu sounds and the home theme, giving your PS5 a nostalgic edge. Does anyone else prefer the PS3 version over all the other ones? No, just me?
In case you’re curious how it all looks and sounds but don’t currently have access to a PS5, then you’re in luck.
Push Square have uploaded a video over on their YouTube channel showing off all of the new themes - and they even included the new PS1 start-up sound. Oof that makes me feel old.
The PS5 Pro is Sony's latest console.
Now this is obviously cool and everyone loves it, but there is a bit of an odd catch that’s confused some folks online.

As you can see in Push Square’s video, for some weird reason it’s specified in the “Appearance and Sound” menu that these new anniversary themes are only going to be available for a “limited time” only.
On @shinobi602’s Twitter post detailing the new themes, I am not exaggerating when I say that 90% of the comments are all just people confused as to why the new update isn’t permanent.
Personally I don’t get it either. Sony has gone through all the trouble to put this together in the first place, so why throw that all in the bin for zero reason?
Maybe they’re planning to sell it later on down the line… nah, they wouldn’t, right folks? …right?
