Some people say Christmas is the best time of the year. Other, more narcissistic people say their Birthday. A good chunk will always say the first day of Spring. But for us here at GAMINGbible? Well, it has to be the first big system update of the year.
A number of PlayStation 5 owners have apparently been receiving emails from Sony (thank you, Push Square) inviting them to check out the console's newest firmware update.
As such, we have to stress: this update is not currently available for everyone. Instead, select users will receive a code which you can then share with up to four friends. Naturally, you test out these updates ahead of everyone else at your own risk.

The patch notes for the new update include a number of changes, which you can see below. These will undoubtedly be rolled out to everyone before long, so if you've not received a code just sit tight.
What's new in the PlayStation 5 February 2025 firmware update?
- We've made it simpler to view details about activities.
- Activity details are now fully displayed on cards.
- Potential spoilers will still be hidden
- Unicode 16.0 emojis are now supported. You can use them in your messages.
- When you set the parental controls' restriction level to Late Teens or Older, Communication and User-Generated Content will now default to Restrict. If you have previously set the level to Late Teens or Older, your previous settings will not be affected and it will be shown as Customise.
- We've improved system software performance and stability.
- We've improved the messages and usability on some screens.
Not a feature-packed system update, then, but some very welcome tweaks for an overall smoother experience. PlayStation gamers are hoping for a big year this year, with some seriously interesting games on the horizon. And a remaster of Days Gone.
