PlayStation 5 gamers treated to free download, no PS Plus required

A long-awaited new-gen upgrade has finally arrived!

Finally, a native version of Minecraft has landed on PlayStation 5 - and it’s totally free to upgrade for everyone who already owns the PlayStation 4 version.

Minecraft is, it goes without saying, one of the biggest games on the planet, so I’m imagining that plenty of you will be able to benefit from this upgrade.

It’s been delighting us with new content for over 15 years now, which is somewhat hard to believe.

I can feel myself crumbling to dust just at the very thought.

It was first announced that a PlayStation 5 version of the game would be landing in June of this year, with that finally releasing this week on 22 October.

As I said, it’s totally free if you already own the game so do make sure you check that you’ve upgraded to the newer version before you load up the title.

The PlayStation 5 version can now be seen listed in the PS Store alongside its PS4 counterpart.

Are you onboard with the Minecraft film? Take a look at the trailer below.

Over on the Minecraft blog, developers wrote, “This native version of Minecraft is optimised to take advantage of the PS5’s powerful hardware, so your game will have a greater render distance while still running in 4K resolution and 60fps.”

“Seeing farther will definitely come in handy as you seek out ingredients for your bundles in Hardcore mode!”

The release of the PS5 edition has coincided with the ‘Bundles of Bravery’ drop.

“The Bundles of Bravery drop not only brings bundles – an item that lets you store other items in it – to Minecraft, it also lets Bedrock players experience the thrills (and spills) of Hardcore mode for the first time,” the blog explains.

“Hardcore mode is the toughest survival challenge Minecraft has to offer – where the game’s difficulty is locked to the highest setting.”

There’s never a dull moment in the world of Minecraft.
