It is the end of an era as the PlayStation 4 has officially wrapped up production in one major country.
Announced as the successor to the PlayStation 3 back in February 2013 before launching in November of that year, the PlayStation 4 has been a steady companion for gamers for the past decade.
The PlayStation has come a long way since the PS4 launched. Check out the PS5 Pro below!
However, with the PlayStation 5 launching back in November 2020, the PlayStation 4 has slowly lost its popularity with gamers opting for the more modern console.

That being said, thanks to stock shortages of the PS5 and the COVID-19 pandemic, many PlayStation users stuck with their PS4 units and for them, this recent report will be bittersweet to say the least.
According to Zuby_Tech over on Twitter, Sony has officially ended shipments of the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 Pro consoles in Japan.
It is the end of an era indeed and fans took to the comments to share their thoughts.
“Wish we could see some updated sales figures. It was reported that 117 mil have been sold worldwide as of 2022. Surely it must be higher now,” user SquareAttack wrote.

For user SynysterPain, the time frame does make sense.
“Well they always promise at least 10 years for each console and they hit almost 12 for the PS4 so I say it was pretty successful,” they added.
With rumours that the PlayStation 6 is currently in development, it would make sense for the PlayStation 4 to be long gone by the time it is launched.
However, as mentioned previously, due to issues with the distribution of the PlayStation 5 and its lack of exclusive titles, many players have stuck with their PS4 units, making this news particularly hard.

“The PS4 has been my first console to return to gaming after almost a decade of not owning a console. Thank you for the memories,” another user commented.
As shipments have ceased over in Japan, it could be a while before it begins here.
However, it is safe to say that it will inevitably happen and it is looking as though it will begin later this year.
Goodbye, old friend.
