PlayStation quietly adds 10 new free trials you can check out now

Sony's focus seems to be on indies this month, with several new titles available right now for PlayStation Plus Premium members

Sony just dropped 10 new free trials you can snag on the PlayStation 5 right now, provided you have PlayStation Plus Premium of course.

PlayStation Plus Premium, the third and most expensive PS Plus tier, offers players access to the PS5's Classics Catalogue, cloud streaming, and free trials for new games every month.

Trials are, as the name implies, timed demos of sorts. How much time you're offered varies with each game, but you're usually given at least an hour or two to give something a go.

The ten games that were just added to the service seem to be entirely indie focused this time round, including trials for the likes of The Darkside Detective, Whispering Willows, The Metronomicon and Etherborn.

Even though most of the games included are certified bangers (seriously though, play The Darkside Detective if you haven't already), the fan response was a little mixed.

To be fair, most don't seem to be taking issue with the games on offer, but rather with PlayStation Plus trials in general.

"Trials should be on essential not premium..." noted one commenter, "Never understood the logic behind it."

"Two hour trial for games never heard of..." replied another, "bold, but also kind of directionless."

Others were a little harsher, including this one that simply said "Trials are worthless" and another who stated "Cancelled Premium. I can’t afford 150 euro a year. Not worth it. They never offered me a discount either and I’ve been had Ps plus and Ps Now for since the beginning."

It's pretty easy to see where a lot of these people are coming from. PlayStation Plus Premium is almost double the cost of the standard PlayStation Plus Essential membership after all, so it's no wonder some folks are taking issue with paying out almost £14 a month for what are essentially just timed demos.

Whether or not you are currently paying for PlayStation Plus Premium though, you should definitely play The Darkside Detective. It costs like a fiver or something, just skip the trial and buy it. You can thank me later.
