OG Metal Gear Solid finally getting PS5 remake, says insider

Recent rumours claim that the OG Metal Gear Solid is getting a PS5 remake

It seems that rumours of a Metal Gear Solid remake are a regularity nowadays and as we begin 2024, fresh speculation of the remade Konami classic has surfaced again.

The fact that Konami announced the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake in 2023, adds validity that we will eventually get a remake of the title that was first released on the original PlayStation in 1998. We have of course already had a remake of Metal Gear Solid in 2004 on the Nintendo GameCube with Twin Snakes, but with that title being a console exclusive 20 years ago, there are a lot of fans of the series that never got to play that game.

Check out the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater trailer below!

At this time, Konami has not confirmed that there will be a remake of Metal Gear Solid, but given that the number three was dropped from the Snake Eater remake, it might imply that the MGS3 remake is a new starting point for a series reboot. Not to mention that chronologically, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is where the story of the series begins.

We do not know when Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be released, but once that launch is out the way, recent reports claim that a remake of the 1998 title is next in line. This would make sense, because when you take away spin-off titles as well as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and the NES releases, a visit to Shadow Moses is the next major chronological tale.

As picked up by Dexerto, an exclusive report from Spanish media outlet Areajugones claims that the Metal Gear Solid remake is in early production and will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5. If true, this would be interesting considering that we know Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will not only be released on PS5 but also on PC and Xbox Series X|S.

It’s worth keeping in mind that this rumour is unconfirmed, so we should take it with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, it’s not outside the realms of possibility considering that Konami is already remaking Metal Gear Solid 3 as well as Silent Hill 2 from Bloober Team.

Finally, as we do not have a release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and assuming that we will be getting a remake of the 1998 game, a return to Shadow Moses could be a couple of years away, at least.
