Horizon Zero Dawn fans disappointed by Horizon 3 update

Horizon Zero Dawn fans disappointed by Horizon 3 update

Aloy's world-saving ventures are taking a brief intermission

I should know patience.

After Horizon Zero Dawn launched, it was a five year gap before Aloy’s adventure continued in Horizon Forbidden West.

And yet, just a couple of years on from Forbidden West’s release, I’m chomping at the bit for the franchise’s next instalment.

I wish I could say that last year’s Burning Shores expansion eased my woes, but it only made me more desperate to see Aloy back in action - especially as she now has new love interest Sekya in tow.

Unfortunately, there is quite a wait ahead.

We have no idea when Horizon 3 is set to land, but it’s arguably going to be at least five years on from Forbidden West if the franchise’s previous gap is anything to go by.

That places the game’s release in 2027 or beyond.

That’s now been backed up by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier who’s explained that one of the main reasons that Horizon 3 is “a ways off” is because Guerrilla is working on another project - and it’s live service.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and LEGO Horizon Adventures are both set to entertain us this year. Take a look at the former game below.

It’s been known for several years now that a Horizon multiplayer game is in the works.

It’s something Guerrilla has alluded to several times, namely in job adverts.

There was also some Fortnite-esque leaked footage that surfaced online quite some time ago, although whether that was real or not was unable to be verified.

Sony’s push into live service has so far been, let’s say, disastrous.

And Concord isn’t the only piece of evidence. You need only look at how Naughty Dog wasted years developing a The Last of Us multiplayer.

I truly do hope that Guerrilla’s attempt works out, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried.

Speaking on the Spawn Wave podcast (transcribed by WCCFTech), Schreier said, “Guerrilla Games is in an interesting place because they're working on this Horizon Online game that I'm not sure how many people want that, and so they've got this remaster coming and then the LEGO game coming. Part of me feels like, I wonder what happens if neither of those hit, and it turns out there isn't a ton of interest in Horizon anymore.”

“Are they still gonna be doing the online game? I don't know. There are a lot of questions around their strategy and around that online game that I certainly have. Horizon Online is their next project, not whatever the third single player game looks like, so that one might be a ways off,” he continued.

I’d like to add that despite my worry, I do quite like the idea of a Horizon multiplayer - although I’d much prefer the third mainline instalment, if we’re being honest.

And it feels like many share my view.

“On the one hand, I’m excited for the multiplayer game, but on the other, it sucks [that] I’m going to have to wait until 2030 to conclude Aloy’s journey,” wrote Twitter user Charrsixx.

“Very risky, has to be unbelievable or autofail,” added enterpriserx.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for something good.
