A mysterious email being sent around by Sony to PlayStation 4 users may hint at Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders soon going live.
It should go without saying that the entire Rockstar Games community hasn’t shut up about GTA VI’s major marketing beats potentially gaining traction this month.
Despite the lack of evidence suggesting so, May has been decided as the month that we’ll get a new GTA VI trailer, the pre-orders will go live, and we’ll all sing a happy song and dance to the tune of Rockstar lining their pockets with billions of dollars.
Well, there actually does seem to be some evidence now that GTA VI pre-orders may be going live soon, and it seems Sony is the one to give it away this time.

As reported by several users (via Kotaku), Sony is allegedly sending out emails to anyone who doesn’t own a PS5 and has GTA VI wishlisted on the PlayStation Store to encourage them to pick up a current-gen console before the pre-orders go live.
You could interpret this as Sony just wanting to bag an extra few console sales, especially following April’s price hike which saw the cost of PS5s rise by as much as £90 in the UK.
However, it can also be assumed that Sony might be aware of Rockstar’s intention to open up GTA VI pre-orders at some point in the near future, potentially as soon as in the next few weeks.
This would make sense, considering Sony has been partnered with Rockstar Games for GTA VI’s marketing campaign since at least last May when the game’s second trailer dropped with a cheeky “Captured On PS5” note.
While it’s probably the best evidence we have for a May 2026 reveal of GTA VI, it isn’t the first hint or rumour we’ve had suggesting this might be the month. Some other theories range from “could actually happen” to “let me put my tinfoil hat on”.
The “planetary positions” theory suggests that GTA VI’s third trailer will launch on 14 May—this Thursday—because it lines up with the planetary positions of every previous Rockstar trailer drop since 2007.
Reddit user JalapenoPoppers24 apparently spent three months working charting current planetary positions in order to work this out.

Another theory suggests that Trailer 3 may drop very soon due to the fact that Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has been speaking more openly about the game in recent weeks.
Last week, Zelnick said that the various teams working on GTA VI have “unlimited financial, creative human resources and then they aim to deliver perfection”.
With this Thursday being the potential candidate for a new reveal, we’ll all wait on further news from Rockstar Games to see just what exactly is next in GTA VI’s marketing campaign, and what else will be saved for later down the line.
